Philosophy
Hatszel Kennels has been breeding Vizsla puppies Since 2000 that work successfully in the field and are good family companions. Our dogs are athletic , versatile and eager to please. We have placed our versatile Vizslas in many environments with owners who are understanding of the Vizslas energy and needs. We encourage our owners to get involved with the many events that Vizslas can compete. Events that your Vizsla can compete in are Field Trials, Hunt Tests, Hunting, Agility, Fast Cat, Tracking, Obedience, and Show Ring.
We use field trial and hunting stock because dogs in these events are required to cooperate with other dogs and their owners and can be controlled at great distances adding trainability to our kennels. Our Vizslas will be bred from our females raised by Hatszel Kennels and which display positive dispositions, temperaments, ability to hunt and perform in the field. The males will be selected for their excellence in hunting, field trials and consistent dispositions. Both parents will be tested for OFA hips and only dogs that are good or better will be used in our breeding program.
Puppy owners should be prepared for the Vizsla puppy high energy and short attention span. They should plan to crate train when the puppy can not be watched religiously. They should also be prepared to stimulate the puppy with both physical and mental training. Mental training actually fatigues the dog better than the physical. By stimulating physically you are producing a dog that is better trained to do physical work. Puppy owners should also be prepared to have a dog that is allowed to reach its full hormonal maturation and not spay or neuter until their dogs are at least 18 months of age. This helps reduce the incidences of cancer, bone and hip problems.
We encourage our owners to stay in communication with us and let us know how their puppies and dogs are doing. This lets Hatszel Kennels know how well we are doing in reaching our goals.
Guarantee
Puppies will receive their first shots using a 5 and 1 vaccine and be wormed prior to going home will be microchipped and come with AKC Limited Registration. Puppies that leave Hatszel Kennels should be seen by their veterinarian with the first two weeks. Any pup found defective can be brought back by week 3 for a refund.
Puppies will be socialized and conditioned to household sounds and sounds of nature. They will be introduced to birds, gun shot (cap gun) and water if weather permits.
Puppies will be given a limited registration and can be lifted if they pass OFA or Penn Hip with acceptable scores. Any pup that does not pass Hip Certification by 30 months of age may be replaced by a current or future litter, provided that the hip failure is not due to injury.
If at any time you are unable to keep your puppy/dog it is required to be returned to Hatszel Kennels Vizslas.
Spay and Neuter Policy
The recent research I have reviewed shows inherent benefits to delaying spaying and neutering to after age 18 months. Benefits include reduced incidence to cancer, joint, bone and behavioral problems have dogs have received their full complements of hormones for adulthood.
Food
We feed our pregnant dogs and puppies TLC Whole Life Pet Food. Foods that are appropriate for puppies should have a protein level of 28 -25% and contain Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Omega-3, and Omega-6. (many puppy foods do not contain these (including TLC) which are important for proper bone growth and heart function. I feed my Working dogs and puppies over 6 months of age Diamond Extreme Athlete. I also feed my dogs over 6 months of age once daily preferably in the evening as their calorie need is lower and they can utilize the nutrients better while sleeping thought the night. If not using TLC Whole Life Pet Food and you are not in need of a high energy food I recommend Diamond Naturals Beef, Chicken or Lamb or a food with a similar balance of ingredients. DO NOT FEED GRAIN FREE FOODS they have been linked to Cardiomyopathy in some studies.
Puppies grow fast and require varying amounts of food based on growth. If your puppy is rapidly finishing their meal consider adding more at the next feeding and remain at that level or increase again if they are finishing quickly. The amounts on the packages are guides, my experience is Vizslas at times need more than what is recommended. Your dog will periodically go off of their food for a few days resist thinking you need to add higher value foods, and treats to their food they will soon go back to eating their normal amount provided there is not a health issue. By giving higher value foods your Vizsla is training you that if I don’t eat my food I get stuff I like better! Remember the Vizsla is the most manipulative dog I know!
Puppy Open House
Puppy open houses are open to the public and will be at my home. They typically Run from 11:00 AM to `1:00 Pm on a Saturday when the puppies are 5 weeks old. No one chooses their puppy at the open house. Choosing the puppy happens at pick up based on deposit order. This gives puppy buyers and future puppy buyers a chance socialize with our puppies, to see our operation and talk with me and other puppy buyers and usually several questions get raised that are beneficial to all.
